Call for Papers: Theory and Practice in Social Studies

Theory and Practice in Social Studies is pleased to announce a call for papers for its upcoming February 2026 issue. This special issue aims to explore the critical dialogue between educational theory and practical application in social studies classrooms worldwide. We welcome manuscripts from researchers, teacher educators, and practicing teachers that examine how theoretical insights can be translated into effective, meaningful, and equitable teaching practices.

We encourage submissions addressing the following areas, among others:

  • Critical pedagogy and its application in social studies curricula.

  • Inquiry-based learning models and historical thinking skills.

  • Civic education, democratic engagement, and youth activism.

  • Culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy in social studies.

  • Assessment of deep learning and critical literacy in history, geography, and civics.

  • The role of educational technology and digital media in transforming social studies instruction.

  • Teacher preparation and professional development linking theory to practice.

  • Interdisciplinary approaches (e.g., integrating social studies with literacy, arts, or STEM).
